Linden Place at Bitter Lake provides 251 affordable for-rent housing units for independent seniors and 140 affordable apartments for families in an urban setting. The project is ideally located across from Bitter Lake Community Park and within walking distance of grocery & retail stores. The senior & family apartments are located in two, independent, 6-story mixed-use buildings which are situated across an internal ‘woonerf’ style living street. This living street is lined with the main building lobbies, residential units, as well as some commercial frontage and contains a hardscape plaza & fountain. This internal street offers a respite from the busy urban streetscape surrounding the project; here the automobile is secondary to pedestrian activity. The woonerf is often closed off to vehicles to allow an outdoor market in the summertime. Large courtyards and open pavilions located above the garage and commercial podium provide outdoor gathering spaces in a safe and secure setting. A variety of community rooms and unique penthouse sunrooms provide community activity spaces throughout the project. Commercial frontage and ground floor residential units with large front porches create a vital and active urban streetscape.
